This opinion piece summarizes the challenges that Apple is facing in China. It’s a huge dilemma because Chinese consumers are growing more sophisticated and with that comes higher expectations, which local brands seem to be meeting with ease. I guess you could argue that foreign brands were always going to be at a disadvantage in a nation where nationalism runs high. But I think Apple really dropped the ball. They should have anticipated many of the price objections from value conscious Chinese consumers and they didn’t. That was pure arrogance.
